Nike’s continuous growth to becoming an eco-friendly manufacturer has sparked programs like Reuse-A-Shoe, which collects around 1.5 million pairs of sneakers annually. With the collection of used and unwanted waste, Nike has recycled materials like rubber, foam, and fabric to forge Nike Grind. Through this method, waste material is ground and formed to a malleable state for repurposing. Since 1992, 130 million pounds of Nike Grind has been used to create recycled products.
Nike has unveiled its Move to Zero Collection for Spring/Summer 2022, which features apparel and footwear to promote the use of recycled materials. Although not all products are completely made from Nike Grind, each product contains a scaled amount of reused material to not lose the integrity and quality of the product.

Nike Sportswear
The Nike Sportswear Collection features all-around pieces from fleeces, rain jackets, and everyday pants to accommodate sport and leisure. Each product is made up of at least 50 percent recycled or organic materials, with some outliers being the iconic Nike Windrunner jacket made from 75 percent recycled material and the woven track jacket fully made with sustainable materials using a recycled nylon and organic cotton fibers.
Nike Tech Pack
Incorporating versatile design and comfort, the Nike Tech Pack brings the collection’s most unique pieces. Standouts include the insulated vest that uses Thermore EcoDown Marble technology made up of 100 percent recycled polyester fibers. Also included is a Women’s parka manufactured with 75 percent recycled polyester. Nike has also adopted a new method of color dyeing to each product, resulting in less chemical use compared to traditional techniques.
Nike Pro
Nike also targets high-volume products that are intended for vigorous use. Most of the Nike Pro line is now is made up of at least 50 percent recycled materials. Women’s shorts and tights move about seven million units per year, making a huge impact on the total amount of material used while maintaining the same snug and comfy fit provided by the Pro line.
Nike Air Max
The Nike Air Max line makes up over half of Nike’s footwear offerings. New models like the Air Max Dawn and Air Max Motif offer contemporary styles made with at least 20 percent recycled material. The brand is also not afraid to give the most iconic and popular models like the AM90, AM95, and AM97 the same treatment, offering sustainable versions of these models made with 25 percent recycled synthetic leather and 100 percent recycled polyester.
Nike Classics
Some of Nike’s greatest hits including the ’77 Blazer, Waffle, and Dunk have received eco-friendly “Next Nature” makeovers, celebrating the brand’s heritage while look forwards to a sustainable future. Each pair is made with at least 20 percent recycled content by weight. The models having an array of materials allows Nike to use a combination of recycled polyester, recycled synthetic leather, and Nike Grind Rubber to create models like the Nike Waffle One Crater Next Nature.
Nike Sun Club
The Sun Club pack is Nike’s ode to summer. The pack features a wide range of silhouettes like the Air Max Pre-Day, Blazer Low ’77 NN, Air Force 1 LV8 NN, and Dunk Low. Still managing to satisfy the main goal of the SS ’22 collection, the silhouettes contain at least 20 percent reused material while providing a bright and punchy color palette.
