Nike has teamed up with AMBUSH co-founder Yoon Ahn to design a Women’s tennis collection, releasing just in time for the US Open.
The collection is comprised of court-inspired styles with a twist, bringing vintage school uniform design cues to mix to evoke a rebellious, anarchistic teen aesthetic. A color scheme of navy, burgundy, and white is applied to the pieces, which include an oversized varsity jacket, a chunky knit cardigan, short-sleeve polos, sports bras, and mini skirts. A YA for Nike Court logo was specially created for this release and can be found across the entire collection.
Apart from the collection, Yoon has also created a special outfit for Naomi Osaka to celebrate her return to the US Open. Osaka’s custom looks feature one-of-one performance dresses as well as walk-on skirts and jackets with oversized bows. Yoon drew inspiration from Japanese subcultures, a nod to where both her and Osaka are both from.
“The inspiration that fueled the look for me — and this might be a Japanese term — is feeling like a ‘magical girl’ on the court,” says Osaka. “There’s a moment of transformation for me when I walk onto the court, and I have a lot of fun playing, so wanting everyone who sees the outfit to connect with that feeling is a really big motivation for me.”
