O. FILES turns its attention to the adidas BW Army with a handcrafted take on the archival silhouette. Dubbed the “Origami,” the design reworks the classic military trainer through carefully folded leather panels that add texture and dimension while preserving the shoe’s understated DNA.
Founded in Copenhagen by designer Oscar Jardorf, O. FILES has built a following through its refined approach to contemporary menswear, blending Scandinavian minimalism with Japanese-inspired design and meticulous craftsmanship. A recurring theme throughout the brand’s work is the art of folding, an influence drawn from origami that now carries over into its latest reinterpretation of the adidas BW Army, a silhouette originally developed as a training shoe for the German Army, making it one of the earliest and most recognizable GAT (German Army Trainer) designs.
Rather than completely reinventing the shoe, the Copenhagen-based label focuses on craftsmanship. Each pair is handmade in Germany, where the leather is individually pleated across the toe box and forefoot, creating subtle variations that make every pair unique. The folded construction gives the otherwise minimal BW Army a sculptural quality, elevating the familiar design without sacrificing its everyday wearability.
The premium build remains intentionally restrained, with smooth cream leather wrapping the upper, complemented by a soft suede heel panel and the BW Army’s signature gum outsole. A zigzag stitch running along the foxing and debossed adidas branding in the rubber serve as quiet reminders of the silhouette’s military roots, while white paint on the heel offers a subtle nod to the artisanal design language often associated with Maison Margiela’s Replica sneaker, the luxury fashion house’s own interpretation of the classic GAT.
