Vans‘ OTW line is turning heads with its latest collaboration in partnership with Dutch artist Piet Parra. They’ve crafted a special edition Old Skool 36 that showcases Parra’s distinct and vibrant artistic style.
Parra’s relationship with Vans goes way back to the early ’90s, when he was a sponsored skater before his artwork gained recognition in galleries. This collaboration beautifully merges art and skate culture, allowing his unique designs to shine on one of Vans’ most iconic shoe silhouettes. It’s a celebration of creativity and the rich history of skateboarding.
The collab leans into soft suede construction with Parra’s wavy colorblocking laid across the upper, bringing movement and texture without overpowering the Old Skool’s clean structure. Expect asymmetric paneling and playful, mismatched details that feel intentional, right down to the tongue-label and footbed typography. One of the footbeds includes a message that sums up the collab’s whole energy, “Don’t forget to skate in these.”
The shoe is elevated with comfort-forward components, including Sola Foam ADC insoles, a vulcanized sole, and the classic waffle outsole. Finishing touches include matte foxing and custom heel scabs, reinforcing that this is a premium OTW release, not just a standard Old Skool colorway.
Rather than stopping at the footwear, Parra is also building out the narrative with a self-directed video, described as an extension of his surreal aesthetic and creative process, bringing the collab into motion beyond the product shots.
The OTW by Vans x Parra Old Skool 36 is slated to release on January 22nd via the Vans website and select retailers. For anyone who has followed Parra’s work or just wants a premium Old Skool with a little more personality, this one lands right at the intersection of art, skate, culture, and everyday wearability.
