World’s First Pokémon Airport Opens in Japan

Designed to support tourism and earthquake recovery efforts in the Noto region.

Pokémon is officially getting its first airport just in time for the franchise’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

Beginning July 7, 2026, Japan’s Noto Satoyama Airport in Ishikawa Prefecture will temporarily reopen as “Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport,” becoming the first airport in the world to carry the Pokémon name. The initiative is part of a partnership between Ishikawa Prefecture and the Pokémon With You Foundation aimed at supporting tourism and revitalization efforts in areas impacted by the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake.

Scheduled to operate through September 2029, the airport transformation is designed to bring visitors back to the Noto region while creating an immersive Pokémon-themed travel experience centered around recovery, community, and tourism.

The airport itself is being fully decorated with Pokémon-themed installations and artwork. A massive Pikachu-and-airplane balloon will float inside the building’s two-story atrium, surrounded by Flying-type Pokémon soaring through the space. According to the announcement, all 111 Flying-type Pokémon discovered as of May 2026 will appear throughout the airport in various displays and decorations.

The first-floor arrival lobby will feature “A Bright Future,” a reconstruction support artwork originally created in 2024 following the earthquake. Pikachu, Plusle and Minun — central figures in the artwork — will also appear as large-scale monuments welcoming travelers arriving in Noto.

Additional Pokémon-themed experiences will be spread throughout the airport, including themed signage, illustrated walls depicting Pokémon airport life around the world, and a rooftop observation deck called “Pikachu’s Village,” where countless Pikachus recreate a miniature satoyama landscape inspired by the airport’s namesake rural scenery.

Visitors will also be able to watch three airport-exclusive short films through their smartphones while inside the terminal. One of the featured stories, “Fly, Bagon!,” follows a Bagon dreaming of flight and connects directly to an in-airport monument depicting the Pokémon gazing up at Salamence.

To commemorate the opening, the airport will also debut a new original artwork titled “Sky of Hope,” featuring Pokémon flying through rainbow-filled skies. The artwork will appear across airport decorations, merchandise and specially wrapped buses operating throughout the Noto Peninsula.

Elsewhere, the airport’s Restaurant Annon will serve Pokémon-themed pancakes and drinks, while the Serendipity gift shop will stock exclusive airport merchandise including apparel, luggage tags and travel accessories.

The experience extends beyond the airport itself. Starting later this summer, specially wrapped Pokémon buses will begin operating throughout Ishikawa Prefecture, including a sightseeing route connecting travelers to Pokémon-themed attractions across the Noto Peninsula such as the Wakura Pokémon Footbath and the “Sylveon with LOVE” monument in Suzu City.

Launching during Pokémon’s milestone 30th anniversary year, the project represents more than a themed attraction. By combining travel, regional revitalization and one of Japan’s most globally recognized franchises, Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport transforms a transportation hub into a symbol of optimism, recovery and renewal for the Noto region.
