You’ve seen his YouTube videos. The algorithm has him all over your social feeds. Qias Omar has been putting out sneaker content since 2015, becoming one of the most recognizable creators in the space. Now, he’s dropping his very own shoe with adidas — the “LA” Superstar — which honors the city of Los Angeles and its thriving vintage and streetwear culture.
Releasing in partnership with iconic SoCal sneaker retailer Private Sneakers, the Los Angeles Superstar is designed to look like a vintage t-shirt with washed black suede uppers, cracked leather Three Stripes on the side panels, and an upside-down shirt tag on the tongue inspired by archival adidas designs. An angel wing logo on the heel pays tribute to the City of Angels’ lasting influence in fueling dreams and elevating success. Additional goodies that come with the shoe include a set of palm tree pins, star-printed laces, custom graphic insoles, and street sign hangtags.
“The Superstar is one of the most legendary sneakers of all time, and being able to put my own spin on it is a dream come true,” says Qias Omar. “I moved to LA exactly 10 years ago to chase my dreams, and this city has completely changed my life. Designing a sneaker dedicated to Los Angeles is my way of saying thank you — to the city, the culture, and the community that has inspired and motivated me since day one.”
The drop also includes two tees featuring rock-inspired graphics, drawing from the city’s rich music and style culture.
The “LA” Superstar will launch first at Private Sneakers’ Long Beach location on Saturday, September 27th. For the release, the store will be transformed into a one-of-a-kind “Sneaker Diner” pop-up, where customers can “order” the shoe and apparel from a playful menu in an immersive environment inspired by classic fast-food culture.
Then, on October 4th, LA-based sneaker retailer Shiekh will host a vintage market pop-up experience inside Vintage Land at Los Feliz Flea Market. The cultural block party will feature lowriders, live airbrush and tooth gem art, DJs, local food vendors, a customization station, and goods from rising LA creatives.
