Reebok and ICECREAM are giving the Board Flip a different kind of refresh, trading its usual ice cream-inspired details for something a little more fitting for happy hour. Dubbed the “Japanese Beer” Board Flip, the latest release arrives in metallic Silver and Gold colorways, both drawing inspiration from Japan’s iconic metallic beer cans.
The collaboration puts a new spin on the classic silhouette, with patent leather uppers making their first appearance on the Board Flip. The glossy finish carries across both colorways, giving the shoes a reflective, almost can-like appearance. Perforated detailing runs across the toe box and side panels and the insoles also take inspiration from Japanese beer labels, complete with the word “ICE CREAM” written in Japanese. The pairs also receive a special translucent outsole, replacing the silhouette’s usual chocolate-and-waffle brown. Each pair comes with additional red laces and packaged in ICECREAM’S signature shoebox.
One of the more noticeable changes comes at the heel, where ICECREAM’S traditional Cones & Bones logo gets its first-ever alteration on the Board Flip. In place of the familiar ice cream cone, a pint of beer takes its spot, bringing the theme together without straying too far from the brand’s visual identity.
While the two colorways share the same design direction, their availability is a different story. The Silver pair is limited to 500 individually numbered pairs worldwide, marking the first time the Board Flip has ever featured numbered editions. The Gold version is considerably harder to come by, with just 25 pairs made. Five have been reserved for friends and family, one will remain in ICECREAM’s archive, and the remaining 19 will be available to win through a gachapon installation at ComplexCon.
Both colorways will make their debut at ComplexCon Los Angeles, taking place October 3-4, available at the Billionaire Boys Club and ICECREAM booth (D20). The Silver Board Flip will retail for $150, with additional pairs available in a limited release following the event. Meanwhile, the Gold edition will have no wider retail release, making the booth’s interactive gachapon experience the only opportunity for attendees to get their hands on a pair. Tokens for the installation will be complimentary with a Silver Board Flip purchase or available separately, giving visitors another chance to score the limited Gold colorway.
