Kith is turning 15, and Ronnie Fieg is celebrating by going back to where it all started. For the anniversary, Fieg is reuniting with longtime partner ASICS to bring back the original “Salmon Toe” GEL-LYTE III, the sneaker that launched Kith’s collaborative footwear program when its first Brooklyn store opened in 2011.
This time, the familiar color blocking lands on the GEL-LYTE III Remastered, a version of the silhouette that Fieg introduced in 2023 with the “Super Orange” edition celebrating the opening of Kith’s Beverly Hills flagship. The Remastered GL3 was completely redesigned to mirror the model’s 2007 specifications—the same year Fieg first worked on the GEL-LYTE III while serving as head buyer for New York footwear chain David Z. The redesign brought changes to the shoe’s shape, panel placement, and tooling, giving Fieg a more faithful foundation for revisiting one of his most recognizable ASICS designs.
The “Salmon Toe” itself dates back to September 30, 2011, when Kith opened its first store in Brooklyn. The original collaboration paired a grey upper with the salmon-colored toe that would become synonymous with the release, helping establish the visual language of Fieg’s ASICS collaborations and becoming one of his most recognizable designs.
Fieg and ASICS have returned to the “Salmon Toe” concept for previous Kith milestones, including a navy-midsole version for the brand’s fifth anniversary and a GEL-LYTE V interpretation for its tenth. The 15th anniversary marks the first time the original 2011 colorblocking returns on the GEL-LYTE III itself, now rebuilt through Fieg’s Remastered construction.
The latest version also gets a premium material update, featuring a pigskin nubuck upper with perforations across the vamp and quarter panels. ASICS and FIEG branding appears asymmetrically across the split tongues and heel tabs, while the footbeds feature ASICS and Kith 15th Anniversary artwork.
The packaging continues the look back at Kith’s beginnings, with a custom shoebox covered in wood grain artwork and co-branding inspired by the brand’s first store.
The “Salmon Toe” release is part of a larger 15th anniversary celebration for Kith, which also includes Kith: The Footwear Archive, a new book published by Assouline documenting the brand’s history through its footwear collaborations.
