RSVP Gallery—the Chicago-based streetwear boutique founded by Don C and the late Virgil Abloh— has unveiled its new “Rap Tees” collection, paying homage to iconic hip-hop albums of the 1990s.
The collection is modeled by three legends of the Windy City’s music ecosystem:
- Andrew Barber, founder of the blog Fake Shore Drive, the influential platform that helped propel the rise of Chicago rap stars such as Chief Keef and Chance the Rapper.
- DJ Pharris, a Chicago radio icon whose been on the air since 1986 and platinum producer who has worked with some of the biggest artists in the game.
- Happy Lewis, a founding member of the Hustle Period crew alongside John Monopoly and Don C. In the ’90s, Hustle served as a marketing and promotions firm that represented the Go Getters—a rap group that included a then-up-and-coming rapper and producer named Kanye West. Ye and the Hustle fam have continued to work closely together for the past 35 years.
The designs reference hip-hop royalty such as Nas, whose iconic chrome logo is recontextualized into RSVP branding across long-sleeve t-shirts and hats. Additional references pull from the visual identities of the groups Salt-N-Pepa and EPMD, as well as rap record labels Def Jam and Death Row, grounding the collection firmly in ’90s hip-hop culture.
The RSVP Gallery “Rap Tees” collection drops December 19th in-store at RSVP Gallery (170 N Sangamon St) and online on the RSVP Gallery website. To celebrate the launch, RSVP will host a release party Friday evening with sounds by Simmy and Preme, plus drinks provided by Rémy Martin.
