PUMA and Salehe Bembury are moving into a second phase of their partnership with the Velum 2, a shoe that pushes the collaboration further into lifestyle-running territory than its predecessor did.
Bembury built his name on that kind of movement between categories, first breaking through with Versace and Yeezy before landing on the organic, terrain-inspired language seen in his partnerships with New Balance and Crocs. With PUMA, Bembury made his first entry into the performance basketball category, designing Tyrese Haliburton’s first signature shoe, the Hali 1.
The Hali 1 was quickly followed by the Velum, marking Bembury’s first lifestyle sneaker with PUMA, both shoe’s featuring the designer’s signature fingerprint-like pattern on their NITROFOAM midsole. The Velum 2 picks up where the Velum 1 left off, evolving the upper while maintaining the tooling and visual DNA established with the original.
The silhouette holds onto Bembury’s signature language, with sculpted and organic surfacing, but the construction is layered more heavily this time around. Molded overlays sit over mesh paneling across the upper, with the same rippled texture continuing down into the outsole. PUMA’s nitrogen-injected NITROFOAM cushioning runs underneath, positioning the Velum 2 as a lifestyle-running hybrid sneaker.
Two colorways anchor the release. “Alloy” keeps things cooler, pairing a metallic-grey upper with a warm tan sole unit for contrast. “Terracotta” goes the opposite direction, wrapping the shoe head to toe in a single burnt-orange tone that only breaks for a black heel counter and outsole.
