New York-based designer Sandy Liang is teaming up with Gap to launch a limited-edition collection, reimagining classic Gap styles through her signature whimsical and nostalgic aesthetic.
The women’s and kids’ lineup features versatile denim staples, including a pleated denim mini skirt, a vegan fur cropped denim jacket, and low-rise ’90s loose carpenter jeans. Cozy fleece options include an extra heavyweight oversized logo hoodie and a heavyweight oversized hoodie with bow detailing, blending playful motifs with Gap’s iconic silhouettes. Rounding out the collection are modern outerwear pieces like a reversible vegan leather sherpa jacket, a vegan fur half-zip pullover, and a bow-back trench coat showcasing Liang’s signature design touch. Baby and toddler styles will be available exclusively online.
“Each collaboration has its own handwriting — its own story,” says Mark Breitbard, President and CEO of Gap. “Sandy Liang has cultivated both an engaged community and an iconic design perspective, which has allowed her to reimagine our heritage pieces into something entirely new, yet familiar. It’s exactly the kind of creative partnership that keeps Gap at the forefront of culture.”
Since debuting her namesake label in 2014, Sandy Liang has become known for her feminine nostalgia, playful detailing, and distinctively New York sensibility.
The accompanying campaign features a dreamy animated short film titled “Sandy’s Dream Closet”, created by visual artist Annie Choi. The film draws from Liang’s childhood in the Lower East Side, including scenes from her father’s Cantonese restaurant, Congee Village, and explores the fashion dreams of her younger self.
“Growing up, Gap was the pinnacle of fashion,” says Sandy Liang. “It’s incredible that I get to co-create with such an iconic brand that I treasured so much as a child, yet is still so relevant today. ‘Sandy’s Dream Closet’ illustrates how wearing Gap made me feel growing up as I imagined being an adult one day and who I could be. I wanted to take the pieces that meant something to me as a kid and reimagine them through my lens today — celebrating girlhood in all its forms, while honoring the iconic styles that make Gap so timeless.”
The Sandy Liang x Gap collection will be available October 10th on gap.com at 9am ET and in select stores at 10am local time. Check out the preview below.
