Milwaukee-based philanthropist and founder of CLICKS and SNEEX boutiques Eric “Shake” James is back with another collaboration with adidas Originals. Following the “Viewfinder” Samba and “What The Milwaukee” Forum Low released earlier this year, Shake now turns his attention to the Adistar XLG 2.0 with the “Wild Rivals” pack.
The two-pair capsule draws inspiration from two of Africa’s most formidable animals: the mandrill monkey and the African rock python. The concept plays on the oversized nature of the XLG 2.0, using the animals as a starting point for a story around size, survival, and dominance in the wild.
The mandrill is represented through materials, textures, and colors inspired by its appearance and rainforest environment. It features a blue gradient mesh upper with red shaggy suede overlays, inspired by the monkey’s electric blue and brilliant red skin on its face and hindquarters.
Meanwhile, the second pair takes cues from the African rock python, one of the largest snake species in the world. It features a yellow and black snakeskin-patterned mesh upper with clear overlays on the toe box and heels inspired by how a snake sheds its skin.
Each silhouette translates its respective animal through layered detailing and premium materials, giving the chunky XLG 2.0 a more organic, nature-driven aesthetic. Together, both pairs represent an ongoing story of survival, where every encounter is defined by instinct and resilience.
The “Wild Rivals” concept also extends beyond the shoes themselves. Each pair comes with a collectible field card featuring facts about the animal’s habitat, diet, behavior, and role within its ecosystem, adding another layer of storytelling to the collaboration.
The Shake x adidas Adistar XLG 2.0 “Wild Rivals” pack is set to release later this year. Grab a first look below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for more.
