After celebrating its 25th anniversary last year, the beloved animated TV show SpongeBob SquarePants is returning to theatres for its second feature length film, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. To celebrate, adidas is dropping a pack of sneakers dedicated to SpongeBob and his best friend Patrick Star.
First up, the Stan Smith Freizeit “SpongeBob” reimagines the characters signature footwear through the lens of the Three Stripes. Known for always rocking black dress shoes, this version takes the upper of the iconic Stan Smith, constructs it in patent black leather with a tonal debossed tongue logo, and places it atop a chunky ridged rubber outsole. Striped lace tips mimic SpongeBob’s socks, while a graphic insole can be removed to reveal a hidden squished Plankton print. Custom packaging is inspired by SpongeBob’s pineapple house and each pair comes with with a boating license accessory.
Next, the Superstar II “Patrick Star” features a full premium suede upper in vapour pink with tonal accents, black stripes, and hidden Patrick-themed embroidery on the inner tongue linings. Each pair is finished with translucent ocean graphic outsoles and comes with extra laces that mimic Patrick Star’s shorts. Like the SpongeBob pair, these also arrive in a custom box designed to look like the character’s home—in Patrick’s case, under a rock.
The SpongeBob SquarePants x adidas Originals collection is available now at select retailers such as Journeys, Finish Line, and Nordstrom. A restock is set to take place on December 10th via adidas.com and CONFIRMED ahead of the premiere of The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants on December 19th. Check out both pairs below.
