The latest collaboration between Jeff Staple and Brooks pulls from the brand’s deep trail-running archive while grounding itself in contemporary performance design. The result is a two-shoe trail collection that blends outdoor utility with streetwear aesthetics.
Reaching into Brooks’ archive, the Cascadia 1 was the brand’s first-ever trail running shoe, debuting in 2004. The Ghost Trail is a modern silhouette built with today’s cushioning and ride expectations in mind. Both arrive in the same color palette centered around earth tones such as brown, tan, and crimson red.
The Cascadia 1 leans into nostalgia with a few twists. It features light brown mesh with darker suede overlays and textured leather panels along the midsole, heel, and collar. Pops of crimson red appear throughout the laces and stitching, adding contrast to the neutral base. Underfoot, a gum outsole reinforces the archival feel while remaining trail-appropriate.
Jeff Staple himself attended a limited early-access launch during this year’s Paris Fashion Week on January 23rd, where he spoke with us about the sneakers in greater detail, including some hidden design elements. A not-so-hidden detail on the Cascadia 1 is that the textured leather is actually a line-by-line map overlay of New York City, pulled directly from the Air Max 90 Navigation Pack that Jeff designed for Nike in 2004.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Ghost Trail represents Brooks’ current performance ethos. Built with a streamlined, one-piece mesh upper in tan, the silhouette features a thick, cushioned midsole split between grey and light brown for visual depth. Red laces and a heel pull tab unify the pack, while the overall construction prioritizes comfort, durability, and everyday wearability, whether on the trail or the pavement.
This isn’t STAPLE‘s first venture with Brooks; the two have previously teamed up for the STAPLE x Brooks Adrenaline GTS 4, marking Brooks’ first official lifestyle release and dressing the early-2000s runner in STAPLE’s signature pigeon-inspired palette.
The STAPLE x Brooks Cascadia 1 and Ghost Trail officially drop on February 5th through the Brooks Website, the STAPLE website, the STAPLE 21 Mercer store in New York, and select retailers. Check out both pairs below.
