Supreme Nike Air Max 2001 Air Ecstasy Release Date

Nike is reviving an overlooked Y2K runner from its Alpha Project series, and Supreme gets first dibs on the relaunch.

Most know the model as the Air Max 2000, though it is now being brought back as the at Air Max 2001 Air Ecstasy. Why the name change? There is a good reason.

When Nike expanded its futuristic, five-dot Alpha Project running line at the turn of the millennium, they released a series of tech-heavy shoes utilizing full-length, multi-chamber Tuned Air units. Among these close siblings were the Air Max 2000, the Air Max 2001, and a distinct model named the Nike Air Ecstasy Plus.

Because these models shared near-identical midsoles and highly similar horizontal TPU cage overlays, they completely blurred together in sneaker history. For 25 years, vintage curators, archive pages, and collectors on Instagram frequently posted original deadstock pairs from 2000/2001, often confusing or using the names Air Max 2000 and Air Ecstasy interchangeably due to how rare and obscure the catalogs were.

When Supreme unveiled their collab on the silhouette, they went with the name Air Max 2001 Air Ecstasy to highlight this forgotten history. However, Nike has labeled upcoming GR versions of the silhouette as simply the Air Max Ecstasy Plus to avoid marketing the shoe with a dated, year-specific title.

Arriving in three colorways, the Supreme x Nike Air Max 2001 Air Ecstasy features a quilted mesh upper with 3M reflective “SUPREME” TPU branding wrapped around the heel. Meanwhile, the original Air Max 2000 midsole makes its return underfoot. The shoe arrives in red with yellowed midsole, white with icy blue accents, and in stealthy black.

The Supreme x Nike Air Max 2001 Air Ecstasy drops August 27th via the Supreme website (11am ET) and Supreme store locations. Check out all three colorways below.
