Launched in 2021 by Japanese chef Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa and designer Chris Stamp, Sushi Club is a Beverly Hills-based culinary-inspired lifestyle brand whose mission is to create a community by bringing people together through quality food, fashion, and art.
To aid them in this journey, Nike has teamed up with Sushi Club on a special edition Air Force 1 that embodies the brand’s passion for quality and craftsmanship. Centered around the idea of a chef’s plate, the Sushi Force 1 comes dressed in white like a culinary canvas, with three different leather variations applied across the upper, referencing matte and shiny plate finishes. Metallic silver accents, referencing a chef’s knife, appear in the form of stamped Sushi Club branding on the toe overlay and heel, as well as custom chopstick lace dubraes.
The mottos of both Sushi Club and Nike, “Step by Step” and “Just Do It,” are sewn onto the inner tongue tags, and the insoles have been modified with improved cushioning, inspired by how chefs are on their feet all day. Luxe details such as premium off-white hairy suede on the Swooshes, gradient perforations on the toe box, and debossed Nike Air branding on the tongues add to the refined look. Last but not least, each pair features a unique serial number woven into the interior heel in a “1987XXXX” format, with 1987 marking the year that Nobu opened his first Matsuhisa restaurant.
While Sushi Club and Nike have previously collaborated on the Air Force 1, this iteration marks the first to release to the public. A friends-and-family “Beverly Hills Sushi Club” Air Force 1, limited to 30 pairs, was unveiled in 2023, followed by a F&F “New York Sushi Club” version in 2024 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Nobu New York. Not only will the 2025 version be more readily available, it also boasts greater craftsmanship and attention to detail than the previous two.
