Japanese artist Takashi Murakami is continuing his long-standing partnership with Louis Vuitton through the Maison’s Artycapucines project. The collection showcases eleven magical iterations of the Capucines bag, each one crafted through the visionary and contemporary lens of Murakami.
Murakami transforms each handbag into a work of art with signature details and nods to his whimsical world and colorful aesthetic, Superflat. The full Capucines bag lineup includes the East West Rainbow, East West Dragon, BB Golden Garden, Mini Mushroom, Mini Autograph, DOBtopus-inspired Mini Tentacle, XXL Camo, Capubloom, Capusplit BB, MM Eye, and Panda Clutch. The pieces pay homage to Murakami’s timeless motifs—from the joyful Rainbow Flower to the reimagined Superflat Monogram.
Since its inception in 2019, Louis Vuitton’s Artycapucines series has invited artists to reinterpret the Capucines bag as a vessel for creativity and imagination. Named after Rue Neuve-des-Capucines—the Parisian street where Louis Vuitton opened its first store in 1854—the bag continues to serve as a symbol of the House’s craftsmanship and innovation.
Murakami’s relationship with LV began in 2002, when then–artistic director Marc Jacobs invited him to reimagine the House’s Monogram canvas in 33 colors. The resulting Monogram Multicolore collection debuted in 2003, marking the beginning of a prolific partnership that lasted until 2015. Their creative alliance was rekindled in 2025 with the Re-Edition Series, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their collaboration through three capsule drops:: “Monogram Multicolore,” “Cherry Blossom,” and “Cerise Cherry.” Each collection introduced new apparel and accessory offerings while honoring designs and motifs from their original launches.
The Takashi Murakami x Louis Vuitton Artycapucines VII Collection will debut at Art Basel Paris 2025, going down October 24-26 at Le Grand Palais. Each bag will be available in limited quantities. Check out the full collection below.
