When Pharrell Williams was signed on to be creative director for Louis Vuitton, it was a big win for hip-hop and streetwear culture. Skateboard P is making sure to use this opportunity to open doors for others, inviting Tyler, the Creator to design his own Spring 2024 LV capsule.
Tyler’s upcoming LV collection blends Tyler’s sophisticated preppy aesthetic with the elegant styling that Williams has established at the French luxury brand. From the first look photos, we see motifs pulled directly from Tyler’s GOLF le FLEUR*, such as the use of the label’s signature baby blue color and the incorporation of the Daryl The Dog mascot (the dog-shaped crossbody bag is top notch). Meanwhile, the brown leather aviator hat continues the travel-inspired theme that Tyler established with his Call Me If You Get Lost album rollout. This hat is accompanied by matching luggage pieces, including a duffle and carry-on. These pieces feature a new version of the LV monogram print called the Craggy Monogram that was hand-drawn by Tyler himself.
Elsewhere in the collection, Tyler showcase his sweet tooth, like on the waffle and butter-inspired sandals and bag with removable maple syrup pouch. The chess board comes with hand-crafted chess pieces that are made to look like melted chocolate, and the wavy cream-colored soles on the footwear is reminiscent of melted ice cream.
This capsule is not Tyler’s first contribution to the LV universe. Tyler was the composer of the score for the Men’s Fall 2022 runway show, where the last collection designed by Virgil Abloh was unveiled. Tyler was also physically part of the show, as he was riding around the set in a monogrammed bicycle. It is well-documented how much Pharrell and Virgil have inspired Tyler’s creative process across various disciplines, so to see the baton passed to him is a beautiful thing.
