Original Story (08/14/20): Following yesterday’s reveal of Nike’s Mamba Week footwear lineup, we now have a closer look at the “What If” Pack, two colorways of the Kobe V Protro made in collaboration with LA’s UNDEFEATED.
As it turns out, these are the “DD” and “U13” Kobe 5s that were reported to be releasing alongside the recently-revealed “Hall of Fame” colorway. “DD” stands for “Dirty Dozen” (previously reported as “Double Digits”) and is a reference to the twelve teams that passed on Bryant during the 1996 NBA Draft. The multicolored pair is made of those twelve teams colors and has the teams listed on the shoe’s insoles. “U13” stands for “Unlucky 13,” which is a reference to the Charlotte Hornets, the team that ended up drafting Kobe with the 13th pick, but immediately traded in exchange for center Vlade Divac.
Of course, Kobe Bryant ended up being traded to the Lakers and the rest is history, but who knows what would’ve happened if the draft went differently, hence the name “What If.” Grab a closer look at UNDEFEATED x Nike Kobe V “What If” Pack below, which releases on August 27th in North America via UNDEFEATED.
