UNDERCOVER x OTW by Vans Launch Debut Collection with Art by Josep Basqué and Jun Takahashi

Japanese brand UNDERCOVER is joining OTW by Vans for a collaboration that highlights their vision through artistic curation and technical craft.

The collection comprises an Old Skool 36 that celebrates Josep Baqué’s imaginary creatures drawings, while the Era 95 features embroidered Jack Russell Terriers, sketched by UNDERCOVER Founder Jun Takahashi himself. The Old Skool 36 comes in classic black and white colorways and is adorned with Basqué’s human and animal hybrid monster illustrations. The Era 95 comes in bold red and white colorways, featuring Takahashi’s original dog drawing graphics reminiscent of his own Jack Russell Terrier. All pairs include UNDERCOVER and Vans branding.

Barcelona-born Josep Basqué (1895-1967) never sought recognition as an artist during his lifetime, therefore, his work remained hidden for nearly 40 years after his death, safeguarded by his niece. His monsters, both grotesque and mesmerizing, ranged from people and giant spiders to serpents, snails, and fantastical fish. In 2007, his extraordinary creations were finally unveiled when the Collège de ‘Pataphysique exhibited 160 of his drawings and published an extensive feature in Viridis Candela. Today, his surreal, otherworldly bestiary stands as a testament to the power of solitary artistic vision, bridging the realms of the bizarre and the sublime.
