UNION Announces Various Collabs for its 30th Anniversary

Union Los Angeles first opened its door in 1991, located at the same space that it occupies to this day, 30 years later. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Union will be launching a series of capsule collections with various collaborators throughout the year.

In a recent blog post, Union gives a detailed account of its history, starting with the original space in NYC, followed two years later by the opening of a co-branded store with Stussy in LA called “The Stussy Union.” This store is the one that stood the test the time, as the NYC store closed in 2010. The post goes on to detail how Union became the first “streetwear” store in the world, selling designs from up-and-coming American designers as well as Urahara brands from Japan.

The Union 30th anniversary celebration will include a capsule collection with Stussy, a throwback to the LA store’s early years. A follow-up to last year’s Jordan Brand collaboration is also coming later this year, along with a separate capsule in partnership with Nike. As Union was one of the first stores to bring Japanese streetwear to the states, Japanese collaborators BAPE and Verdy are also thrown into the mix.

The celebration kicks off with a special Union 30 Year capsule this week, as well as the return of Union’s “The Frontman” logo. Inspiration for this logo was previously ambiguous, though Union now reveals that the inspiration comes from the Lorraine Hansberry film Raisin in the Sun.
