Warren Lotas Drops Bootleg Pokémon Collection

Gengar, Mewtwo, and more reimagined through the designer's gritty aesthetic.

Warren Lotas is back to his old tricks. The LA-based designer has announced the release of a bootleg Pokémon capsule, once again leaning into the kind of unauthorized remixing that helped make his name.

If this feels familiar, it should. Back in 2020, Nike sued Lotas over his reinterpretations of the Nike SB Dunk, accusing the designer of copying the silhouette too closely during the peak of the Dunk’s resurgence. The suit quickly ended in a settlement, with one of the key terms being that Lotas was permanently banned from selling the infringing Dunk-style shoes and other Nike-inspired products.

That moment cemented Lotas as one of streetwear’s most controversial figures—someone willing to openly cross the line between homage and bootleg, continuing to test the limits of what brands and rights holders will tolerate.

Now he’s tapping into another cultural wave. Pokémon is having a major moment again as the franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary, with nostalgia for the iconic characters spilling back into fashion, collectibles, and pop culture.

Dubbed the “Little Monsters” collection (in an attempt to avoid blatant copyright infringement), the drop flips fan-favorite characters and monsters such as Ash, Team Rocket, Pikachu, Gengar, and Mewtwo through Lotas’ signature dark aesthetic, turning the childhood icons into grimy graphics built around his recurring skull motif, across tees and hoodies.

The Warren Lotas “Little Monsters” collection drops March 6th at 5pm ET on warrenlotas.com, that is unless The Pokémon Company steps in before the release with a cease-and-desist. Check out the preview below.
