West NYC is linking up with adidas once again, this time celebrating the timeless Rod Laver with a fresh “White/Orange” colorway.
Earlier this year, West NYC and adidas released a two-shoe pack honoring the 85th anniversary of their sister store, Tip Top Shoes. Their latest effort takes a more understated approach, highlighting the clean, classic lines of one of adidas Originals’ most enduring silhouettes.
For the campaign, West NYC partnered with another neighborhood institution: Zabar’s, the legendary gourmet grocery store located just eight blocks away. Editorial images feature Zabar’s floor staff laced in the Rod Laver, making the sneaker an unofficial extension of the store’s iconic uniform. The collaboration is a natural fit, given Zabar’s long-standing ties with the Tip Top Shoes family and the store’s signature colors perfectly aligning with the shoe’s palette.
Since debuting in the 1970s, the Rod Laver has transcended its tennis roots, cementing itself in pop culture and hip-hop. It’s been referenced in tracks by artists like Madvillain and Roc Marciano, and its design DNA even influenced silhouettes like the Reebok G-Unit G6.
To further celebrate the release, West NYC has launched a wheatpaste campaign across the city, underscoring the Rod Laver’s status as an “offline classic” that never goes out of style.
