adidas and BAPE‘s new collection is fronted by Oklahoma City Thunder’s Jalen Williams, and it’s anchored by a silver camo Crazy Energy+ and apparel in BAPE’s purple camo, a print fans link to the label’s early-2000s peak. For anyone who has followed the brands through a year of football capsules, this is a switch in sport and a return to the era when basketball and streetwear shared the same wardrobe.
The two have worked together since the early 2000s, and their recent projects have leaned toward football, including a World Cup-themed capsule earlier this year. This summer, they moved into performance footwear with a mismatched pink-and-blue Adizero EVO SL running shoe, and the Crazy Energy+ carries that shift onto the basketball court.
The shoe leads the lineup. The Crazy Energy+ is one of adidas Basketball’s newest performance models, and Williams is among the players wearing it this season. BAPE’s version covers the sculpted upper in metallic silver and prints it with an abstract ape camo, with ape faces and Trefoils faintly visible in the pattern. A knit “WGM” overlay sits where the laces would normally dominate, a reference to World Gone Mad, a long-running BAPE slogan, and the pair ships with two lace options. Underneath are LightstrikePro cushioning and an icy translucent outsole with herringbone traction.
The apparel takes the same idea off the court. The centerpiece is a black varsity jacket with leather sleeves, cream-striped trim, gold studs and snaps, adidas Originals and ape head patches, and chenille “A” and “B” letters outlined in purple. A World Gone Mad graphic spans the back. A reversible full-zip hoodie flips from purple camo with cream three-stripe sleeves to a deep purple STA print with an oversized Trefoil, and its hood zips up into a shark face. Matching reversible Adibreak track pants follow the same split. The rest of the range includes a mesh warm-up top with the World Gone Mad wording filled with camo, a Baby Milo tee showing the mascot on a gold ring, a reversible camo beanie and a Baby Milo basketball bag.
Williams brings the campaign together as someone who works in both sport and style, the kind of face that suits a collection split between the court and the street.
The collection releases on November 7th on the adidas CONFIRMED app, through select retailers, at BAPE STORE, and on BAPE.COM.
