CNCPTS x New Balance 997 "Montage" Pays Tribute to Past Projects

Boston-based retailer CNCPTS is celebrating its long-standing partnership with New Balance with a new 997 collaboration, dubbed “Montage.”

Marking their fifth 997 project, the upcoming “Montage” colorway strays from the tonal balanced aesthetics of its predecessors and opts for a grunge and punk-inspired look, paying tribute to the music genres that defined the early ’90s, when the 997 was first introduced. The vintage design leans into the saying “what comes around goes around,” featuring a gradient of black and lighter grey hues that represent an ever-evolving culture, finished with distressed accents and disruptive marker-style detailing.

The accompanying campaign video stars content creators Jay Guapo and Jay Burt, where the duo engage in a back-and-forth exchange of fashion wars. In the end, Guapo only gives respect to the 997 sneakers Burt chose to wear — “Only thing fire is the kicks.”

To celebrate the launch, CNCPTS and New Balance are taking over Lou’s, a vinyl lounge in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on December 10th, with sounds by special musical guests.

The CNCPTS x New Balance 997 “Montage” drops December 11th at 10am ET on cncpts.com. Check them out below.
