Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has steadily expanded his signature Converse SHAI 001 lineup since its debut last fall, rolling out colorways dedicated to his family that reflect personal stories and close connections. Now, the NBA MVP is pushing the model forward with the SHAI 001 PREMIUM, a refined take that introduces elevated materials and a more fashion-leaning design language.
The Oklahoma City Thunder guard debuted the SHAI 001 PREMIUM “Ink” in Game 1 of the playoffs against the Phoenix Suns. Arriving in a monochromatic navy colorway, the updated silhouette comes equipped with a plush leather-wrapped upper and heel overlay. The silhouette maintains its radial traction pattern and forefoot Zoom Air feature and is finished with debossed logos and tonal branding.
The “Ink” colorway represents how while most ballers are out there searching for rhythm, Shai’s already written the ending. He isn’t hunting for a lucky bounce or a broken play; he’s waiting for the defense to over-commit just a fraction of an inch so he can trigger the second action. By the time the help arrives, he’s already rising up. He doesn’t just play the game; he authors it.
This marks the second elevated iteration of the SHAI 001 to move away from its standard neoprene construction, and the first to feature a fully leather upper. It follows up the SHAI 001 Lux “Truffle” colorway that launched back in February, which featured premium nubuck construction.
