The Chicago Bulls will officially retire Derrick Rose’s jersey number in a couple of weeks, though fans across the Chicagoland area got a chance to celebrate the hometown hero early during a special “D Rose Day” event on January 4th.
Attendees were invited to leave personal messages for the Chicago-born hoops star and were entered into a raffle to win VIP suite tickets to Rose’s jersey retirement ceremony at the United Center during the Bulls vs. Celtics game on January 24th. Fans were also able to reserve a pair of Rose’s first signature shoe, the adidas AdiZero Rose 1, in the “Bulls” colorway ahead of its in-store-only Foot Locker release on January 17th.
Hundreds of fans pulled up for the event, many wearing their favorite D Rose merch, including Bulls and Simeon High School jerseys and various adidas Derrick Rose sneakers, ranging from the Rose 1 that originally released in 2010 during his MVP season to the Fear of God Athletics II Basketball PE that released this past December.
The event commemorates the second annual “D Rose Day,” as last year the mayor officially proclaimed 1/4/25 as the first “D Rose Day,” with each number in the date representing a number worn by Rose throughout his NBA career. This was also the day that the Chicago Bulls first announced their plans to retire his “1” jersey.
