j-hope and NIGO are teaming up for a new Nike Air Force 1, bringing together the BTS star and Japanese designer for a fall-ready take on the iconic silhouette.
The collaboration marks NIGO’s second Air Force 1, following his “Last Orgy 2” project with Jun Takahashi. Like that release, the new pair uses the ’01 shape, giving it the proportions of an early-2000s AF-1.
The color palette leans into brown, gold, and copper hues, giving the shoe a warm look suited for the fall season. The upper is constructed in patent leather, a material choice that connects directly to NIGO’s own footwear history. His BAPE STA silhouette was heavily inspired by the Air Force 1, and the glossy construction here recalls the look of some of his most recognizable BAPE STA designs.
A squirrel motif embroidered on the lateral heel adds the most personal detail to the collaboration. The squirrel has become a fan-created symbol for j-hope, whose real name is Jung Hoseok, with fans drawing comparisons between the BTS member and the animal based on his expressive cheeks, energetic personality, and animated stage presence.
“I think j-hope is one of the few people who can become a true ambassador for culture and help carry it forward to the next generation,” says NIGO.
The squirrel gets a blue outline, while additional blue accents appear throughout the shoe. The tongue tags feature mismatched “J-HOPE AIR” and “NIGO AIR” branding, with the same branding appearing on the back of the heels. Pink and blue AIR branding adds contrast to the midsole.
The special packaging continues the theme with squirrel, acorn, star, and Swoosh motifs, giving the release a presentation that extends beyond the shoe itself.
“I really like the harmony of the enamel material color that NIGO expressed,” says j-hope. “And the special shoelace details that I haven’t seen often bring out the charm of the sneakers even more. It’s so good.”
Given the recent momentum around j-hope and NIGO’s “HUMAN HOPE” Human Made collection, as well as the demand surrounding NIGO’s previous Air Force 1, this pair is expected to move quickly once it releases.
The j-hope x NIGO x Nike Air Force 1 launches October 17th through Human Made, followed by a global release on October 22nd via SNKRS and select retailers. Check out the campaign shots and official images below.
