New York-based German fashion designer Melitta Baumeister partners up with Nike for her first collaborative sneaker, a fitting choice as Nike continues to deepen its ties to the fashion world.
Described as a sculptural designer, Baumeister launched her namesake label in 2013 and has since become recognized for her distinct voice in contemporary design. In 2025, she was named a recipient of the National Design Award. Her work is defined by oversized silhouettes, innovative materials, and garments that challenge conventional body standards and trend cycles
Baumeister began working with Nike in October 2025, debuting an experiential performance and installation in New York City. Their joint project, “Run Like No One Is Watching,” marks not only her debut in sportswear but also her first-ever brand collaboration. Now, she is reimagining the Nike Vomero Premium — marking the first-ever collaboration on the silhouette.
The Vomero Premium was engineered to deliver an anti-gravity sensation for long-distance training, drawing inspiration from anti-gravity treadmills. The design mimics reduced body weight through a protective sole unit that combines plush ZoomX foam with highly responsive Air Zoom units in both the forefoot and heel. Notably, these Air Zoom units mirror the technology found in Nike’s elite track spikes, including the Maxfly 2 and Victory 2.
The Melitta Baumeister x Nike Vomero Premium arrives in a bold orange colorway accented with black detailing and a tan sockliner. Rather than presenting the runner as pristine or futuristic, the sneaker is intentionally distressed to appear as though it has already logged 100 miles, complete with worn-in and subtly scorched details.
Enlarged AIR branding and a black Swoosh pull from familiar Nike design language, while eye graphics on the medial side panel and outsole cutouts introduce a surreal, almost secretive layer to the build. The result feels playful yet deliberate.
Together, these elements position the Vomero Premium within a broader shift toward fashion-forward performance runners, where technical innovation and conceptual storytelling carry equal weight.
