Nike Basketball is reintroducing the Kobe 3 as part of the brand’s ongoing mission to celebrate the legacy of Kobe Bryant and extend his legendary Mamba Mentality to the next generation of athletes.
Originally worn by Bryant during his 2007–08 MVP season, the Kobe 3 has been re-engineered as a Protro (Performance Retro) to meet the needs of today’s game. The Kobe 3 Protro will make its debut in the all-white “Halo” colorway on Kobe Bryant’s birthday, continuing the yearly tradition started with the Kobe 8 Protro in 2023, followed by the Kobe 9 Protro in 2024.
This reintroduction marks Nike’s most extensive Kobe Protro effort to date, elevating the original by overhauling the upper, midsole, and outsole based on wear-test feedback. The upper, which maintains the Kobe 3’s classic basketball net inspiration, is now backed with mesh that provides enhanced containment and airflow, locking the foot in place while letting it breathe.
Underfoot, a full-length Zoom Strobel replaces a pair of smaller Air Zoom units in the forefoot and heel, pairing with a plush Cushlon 3.0 midsole to enable maximum energy return, premium court feel, and lightweight support. Meanwhile, an updated traction pattern helps hoopers make directional cuts, hard stops, and explosive takeoffs with confidence.
The Kobe 3 Proto also features new diamond shapes on the upper and outsole in honor of Kobe’s eldest daughter, Natalia, whose middle name is Diamanté. As part of the rollout, Natalia Bryant stars in a jewelry store-themed promo video alongside incoming Oklahoma freshman Aaliyah Chavez and Knicks star Jalen Brunson, who is getting his own Kobe release later this year.
