On February 27, 1996, the iconic Pokémon Red and Green games launched in Japan, sparking a global phenomenon that would redefine video games, inspire a multimedia empire, and capture the imaginations of generations worldwide. As the Pokémon franchise turns 30 in 2026, some crazy anniversary collaborations have already been teased for the new year, including a Uniqlo UT collection, LEGO sets, and a TCG global promotion with McDonald’s Happy Meals. adidas Originals will also be releasing Pokémon sneakers as part of the festivities, and we now have a first look at one of the upcoming styles.

A sample pair of an upcoming “Mewtwo” adidas ZX 8000 has surfaced, inspired by the legendary Psychic-type Gen 1 Pokémon. The shoes comes dressed in Mewtwo’s pink and purple color scheme and includes special Mewtwo-inspired features, such as added panels on the eyelets that resembles Mewtwo’s eyes and molded heel panels shaped like Mewtwo’s ears. Additional details include Mewtwo’s portrait on the tongue tags, gold foil Pokémon x adidas Originals branding on the insoles, Master Ball lace jewels, and a Mew on the leather upper hiding behind the Three Stripes.

Additional Pokémon x adidas Originals styles releasing as part of this 30th anniversary collection include Superstars inspired by Pikachu (K12857/KI2858), Charmander (KI2855), and Charmeleon (KI2856), and a Mewtwo-themed adidas Samba (KI8220).
