Reebok and visionary artist Tobe Nwigwe have unveiled the first drop from their multi-season “Reebok x Chukwu” partnership.
The highly-anticipated collaboration seamlessly merges Reebok’s athletic heritage with Nwigwe’s distinct creative vision. “This is monumental—it’s my first time designing a shoe and an apparel capsule with a major brand, and I’m creating something that truly reflects my style, vision, and perspective,” says Nwigwe.
For the first chapter of this collab, titled “Preseason OTU,” Tobe and Reebok wanted to re-imagine iconic sport-inspired silhouettes. Nwigwe took inspiration from the nostalgia of his college football days and his love for the game when designing this collection. Pieces throughout the collaboration feature silhouettes, textures, and designs often found on the gridiron.
A highlight of the collection is The Chukwu OTU, a re-imagined Reebok Turf Trainer with as hairy suede and nubuck leather construction. OTU, meaning “One” in Igbo, is a tribute to Nwigwe’s Nigerian American roots, celebrating heritage and the universal pursuit of greatness. “The OTU reflects my dual identity—being African American, first-generation American, and deeply connected to my Nigerian heritage. It’s more than a name; it’s the blending of cultures and values that shape who I am,” says Nwigwe.
The footwear is joined by an assortment of gender-neutral, game-inspired apparel that includes a padded coaches jacket, a football jersey featuring the number 88 (a homage to Nwigwe’s wife and her birth year), a graphic hoodie and tee, an oversized sideline jacket, vest, and zip-off pants.
All styles in the collection are executed in Nwigwe’s signature mint green hue and black, creating an intimate connection between his identity and artistic vision. “Every detail, every element, works together to create something that feels both intricate and effortless at the same time, a reflection of my design philosophy—complex simplicity,” concludes Tobe.
