Kith founder Ronnie Fieg is celebrating the grand opening of the new Kith Chicago flagship store with the launch of a new collaborative collection with ASICS titled “World Fair.”
When contemplating concepts to bridge New York City and Chicago, Fieg drew inspiration from the World’s Fair, which was hosted by Chicago in 1933-1934 and Queens in 1939 and 1964. The collection pays tribute to the Fair’s global legacy with eight styles tied to cities that have hosted the event and where Kith has had a store or pop-up.
After over two years of development and 36 total sample rounds, Fieg and ASICS have crafted some of their most premium material mixes and intricate details to date. The lineup includes four colorways of the GEL-LYTE III, the first ASICS model Fieg worked on back in 2011. Inspired by Brazil, South Korea, Italy, and Canada, these pairs feature quilted underlays, patent leather Tiger Stripes, and the signature split tongue with Fieg branding. Each comes with extra laces, lateral GEL-LYTE III branding, and a co-branded footbed.
Also included is the return of the GEL-KAYANO 12.1, previously seen in Kith’s Vintage Tech Pack earlier this year. The “USA” edition comes in Wind Chime and Pure Silver with an open mesh upper, synthetic overlays, and Kith branding on the tongue and footbed.
The “World’s Fair” collection also introduces Fieg’s new GEL-MAI 0.1 silhouette, an updated take on the archival ‘90s GEL-MAI. Representing Japan, Fieg’s 0.1 version retains fuzeGEL cushioning but swaps in lifestyle materials, with a mesh underlay, synthetic leather overlays, and co-branded tongue, heel, and footbed details.
Another of Fieg’s creations, the GEL-LYTE 3.1, is also featured in the collection, representing the country of France. A hybrid style that combines the upper of the GEL-LYTE III with the GEL-NIMBUS 17 sole. Details include a leather upper, quilted underlays, a split tongue with Fieg branding, and debossed artwork on the lateral sides.
Rounding out the set is the “Chicago” GEL-KAYANO 14, dressed in a Granite colorway with Gray and White accents. Pops of blue on the GEL cushioning and red, white, and blue insoles nod to the Chicago flag, while iridescent overlays, custom packaging, and Fieg and Kith branding complete the look.
To celebrate the release, Ronnie Fieg and ASICS will be bringing their own ASICS World Fair to Chicago for one day only on Friday, October 3rd. Kith Chicago will be transformed into an ASICS exhibition, showcasing Ronnie Fieg’s complete personal collection, past and present collaborations, and the personal collections of two select collectors from Asia and Europe. Those who signed up on the Kith app and were selected for their chosen time slot will have a chance to check out the exhibition and purchase the collection a day prior to the official launch at the Kith Chicago grand opening on Saturday, October 4th and the global launch on Monday, October 6th. That evening, Fieg and ASICS will also host an exclusive talk for Vitality Loyalty Members, highlighting the inspiration behind the project and the history of Fieg’s partnership with ASICS.
