STAUD and New Balance are teaming up for the fifth (and reportedly final) time. The duo are following up their “Classic Then, Classic Now” collection from last October with a new collaborative capsule inspired by ‘80s and ‘90s surf fashions.
Informed by STAUD co-founder and creative director Sarah “Staud” Staudinger’s newfound love of surfing, the collection features a vintage So-Cal surf scene aesthetic. STAUD’s signature bright reds and pinks are mixed with baby blues and bold logos for a heritage feeling.
“For one of my first trips post-quarantine, I went to Costa Rica and absolutely fell in love with surfing,” says Staudinger. “From the athleticism to the culture that surrounds the sport, it was a natural fit for the theme of this new collection.”
The star of the collection is the unisex XC-72 in two new colorways: all white with black laces and a multi-color iteration with hits of sky blue, lavender, navy, yellow, and red orange. The footwear is accompanied by a wide range of lifestyle and sportswear apparel, such as wetsuit-inspired neoprene pieces, a sweatshirt with multi-colored buttons, and a one shoulder workout top with pockets at the chest and waist.
