Takashi Murakami’s Rainbow Flower Lands on the Ohana Full-Bloom Sandal

The artist's signature motif takes center stage on his latest footwear drop.

Takashi Murakami is bringing his rainbow flower to the Full-Bloom for the first time under his own label, Ohana Hatake. The motif — that grinning, multi-petaled face that’s run through Murakami’s work for years — now covers the brand’s sandal in a full-color display.

Murakami framed the release around what the flower represents beyond its appearance: the motif reads as joyful and optimistic on the surface, but carries other emotions and perspectives beneath the it. With the Rainbow Full-Bloom Collection, Murakami hopes those layers come through across the full spectrum of color.

Previous Ohana Hatake releases include the Surippa Onsen Collection II, consisting of three colorways in Purple Ash, Mineral Blue, and Birch, pulling from the muted, mineral palette of Japanese hot springs. That drop kept the flower tucked onto the outsole and midsole, letting the calmer colors do the talking. The Full-Bloom “Rainbow” flips that script, putting the flower front and center.

The Ohana Full-Bloom “Rainbow” opens for pre-order Thursday, July 23rd at 12pm ET via the Ohana Hatake website and are estimated to ship in November. Starting the same day, the brand is also resetting all prices across its Full-Bloom and Surippa lines to $90 and $50, respectively. Stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for more Ohana Hatake news.
