Vans Old Skool Pays Homage to Chanel’s Graffiti Messenger Bag

Original Story (04/29/25): Vans is dropping an Old Skool 36 inspired by Chanel’s iconic On the Pavements graffiti messenger bag.

Debuted by Karl Lagerfeld as part of Chanel’s Spring 2015 collection, the On the Pavements messenger bag features olive canvas and brown leather construction with multicolored frayed tweed accents. The canvas body comes distressed with a seemingly spray-painted design and is covered in various Chanel-themed pins.

Using this Chanel bag as inspiration, the Vans design team created the Old Skool 36 “Souvenir,” featuring spray-painted canvas uppers, brown leather overlays on the toe, heel, and eyelets, and multicolored tweed Jazz stripes on the side panels, which come covered in Vans-themed pins. Other details include a purple leather sockliner, metallic eyelets, and a vintage-style vulcanized midsole with a pre-aged aesthetic.

The Vans Old Skool 36 “Souvenir” is slated to drop Fall 2025 on the Vans website and at select retailers. Grab a first look below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.

Update (07/30/25): The Chanel-inspired Old Skool has begun to hit shelves at select Vans stores and boutiques. The online drop is set for July 31st at 9am ET on the Vans website. There’s a ton of buzz around these, so expect them to sell out quickly. Check out the official images below.

Update (07/31/25): Vans dropped the “Souvenir” Old Skool at midnight instead of the announced 9am time. They sold out quick, just as expected. Luckily, there will be another release at retailers. Sneaker Politics has already opened a raffle for their drop on August 8th. Expect more retailers to announce their drops in the coming days.

Update (08/01/25): Saint Alfred has announced its raffle, open August 1st from noon to 5pm CT on their website.
