Jordan Brand is going big for the 30-year anniversary of Space Jam, releasing a collection of special retros to commemorate Michael Jordan’s big screen team-up with Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes gang. The latest addition to the lineup is the “Monstars” Air Jordan 11, themed after the villainous aliens that MJ and the Tune Squad faced off against in the film.
Instead of drawing inspiration from the Monstars themselves, the design is actually based on the film’s iconic behind-the-scenes footage. When shooting the matchup between the Tune Squad and the Monstars, Michael Jordan was filmed against a green screen backdrop alongside stand-ins wearing all-green bodysuits. MJ himself wore his Tune Squad uniform paired with the now-famous “Space Jam” 11s, which are also returning as part of the film’s 30-year anniversary celebration.
According to zSneakerHeadz and Sneaker Files, the “Monstars” Air Jordan 11 will come dressed in an all-green colorway inspired by the exact tones seen in those behind-the-scenes shots. Additional details include full glow-in-the-dark outsoles and special Space Jam 30th anniversary packaging, similar to this year’s OG Air Jordan 9 retro.
